How to make a backup of your phone contacts

This page describes how you can make a backup of the address book on your phone using Soocial's online address book service. Soocial supports most phone brands: BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Nokia, SonyEricsson and more (See the full list of devices supported by Soocial). The process is simple and you should be able to make a backup within a few minutes.

This page explains how to:

  • Create a Soocial account
  • Connect your phone to Soocial
  • Copy all contacts from your phone
  • Connect Soocial with your other devices and easily keep all your contacts in sync

1. Create a Soocial account

In order to create a backup the first step means creating a Soocial account. This step is very easy and involves only filling a form.

Create Soocial account

Click the button above and fill in the simple form. You will need to fill in your name, email address and choose a password.

After you have created an account we will send you an email that welcomes you and asks you to confirm your email address. You have a number of days to before you have to confirm the email address, but we send you a reminder email if you haven't confirmed after a few days. Be sure to check your spam folder to make sure our message hasn't gotten stuck there and to prevent further notifications from not getting to your inbox.

2. Connect your phone to Soocial

After you have created your account you will be on Soocial's Getting Started page. The next step involves getting Soocial to work correctly on your phone. Once this has been setup you can start creating your backup.

For BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobile users:

  1. Choose your brand from the list on the getting started page
  2. Follow the steps on your browser screen:
  3. Install the Soocial client
  4. Fill in your username (this is your email address) and password
  5. That's all!

For all other models:

  1. Choose 'Add a phone' the list on the getting started page
  2. Pick your phone brand, a list of phone models for your brand will appear
  3. If necessary pick a model series
  4. Pick your phone brand
  5. Fill in your phone number and verify that the country shown is correct
  6. Choose your network operator from the list
  7. Fill in your password and click continue.

This will send an SMS configuration to your phone that will install the correct settings including your username and password on your phone. After you have received this SMS follow the following steps:

  1. Install the settings by opening the text messages and selecting options and then "Yes, install" on your phone
  2. If prompted fill in the Pin code '1234'
  3. That's all, your phone is ready to sync!

3. Copy all contacts from your phone

This step largely consists of letting your phone and Soocial do the hard work of sending all your contacts to your backup. In short it means triggering the first sync then forgetting about it.

If you have a BlackBerry, Windows Mobile or iPhone

Start the Soocial app you just downloaded and click on the 'sync now' button. Soocial will start syncing and within a few minutes all your contacts will be safely stored in a backup in Soocial.

All other phones

Every phone has it's own way to start a sync to Soocial. On most phones it will be in your menu > settings but you might need to follow more precise information on how to do this.

4. Connect your other devices

Once you have connected one device (your phone) you are ready to really see how useful an online backup can be. Soocial provides more than just an online backup as now you can add more devices and service and combine your address books!

Add your computer
