Soocial is and will always be under active development. We keep adding features all the time — introducing bugs that we have not been able to squash yet. It might happen that you run into glitches, annoyances or other incorrect behaviour.
We'd like to warn you about these bugs and issues so that you can help us find, track down and squash them. The following list provides known issues that we are working hard on to solve.
Since a few weeks Gmail keeps telling us that images for contacts have changed even though they have not. This creates multiple problems for the sync since we cannot trust the information from Gmail. All other data for contacts syncs fine. To keep syncing with Gmail we had to make a workaround for the syncing of contact images. Please expect the following behavior for the contact images:
When you set up a source with Windows Live a year permission is offered. This does not work though. The permission will expire the next day. You have to pick the "month" option.
Microsoft has changed something on their end that is causing this. Soocial can still import groups from Windows Live. We can also create new groups and add one contact to it. But after that we can not add more contacts to any group.
If you still want the groups to be accurate on all your sources we recommend using Windows Live to edit the group information and then have it sync to Soocial.
Detailed explanation
Q. What happened?
A. For syncing contacts with Windows Live we use an old deprecated API. We have tried to get in contact with Microsoft many times over the year to ask them to change and/or fix stuff. So far we have been able to work around the quirks of the API, but this time we are not able to.
Q. Is there not a newer, better API?
A. There is a newer API but it is pretty much read only. The API we are using currently still has a lot more functionality than the newer API that is supported by Microsoft.
Q. Is this situation permanent?
A. Yes, it is. We do not expect this to improve. As the matter affect things might deteriorate in the future as this API is no longer supported by Microsoft.
There are currently no known issues for Android
The initial sync will take quite long. Lots of pictures can make it even slower. Getting the sync set up with more 2000 contacts or more might need several attempts.
Contacts that have calendar entries linked (Birthdays or appointments) might loose those links when the contact is updated by Soocial.
On these devices you need to set the APN settings. Do this by going to Settings → Advanced Settings → TCP/IP. You can find the settings for your provider by searching the internet for "<name of your network operator> APN Blackberry".
In some occasions the sync will not run right away. Sync services needs a reset. Please do the following to fix it.
First:
Reset Sync Services http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1627
Then:Reset Soocial for the Mac
One thing you have to be really careful about is using other contacts syncing solutions in combination with Soocial. You might have used some other syncing tool or set up a syncing source on your computer or phone/tablet that you forgot about. This could cause your contacts being synced in a loop and this WILL create dupes. Cleaning up those dupes by manual or automatic merging will even cause all versions of these contacts to be deleted.
If you see anything like this happening please check if you have any of the following:
You will be able to keep using it, but you want the contacts syncing part to be turned off.
